When preparing for one’s travel, social media, including Instagram, can be a huge asset. You can learn more about where to visit, what to eat, and quite bluntly, who the cool kids are. To that end, having decided to spend some extended time in Uruguay a few months back, I started to add Uruguayans to the list of those I follow on Instagram. My rules are simple--find the hashtags based on your interest and go from there! So who are the top Instagrammers in Uruguay? Well, in my view here are the top 10:
@juanpablogatti: Uruguay is a great place to stay if you want to be somewhere quiet, peaceful and stable. But there is also a fun, convivial side to this country, and in Montevideo. Juan shows the fun side of Uruguay and its capital—reflecting his personality.
@petobus: Federico and Marita’s photos would make the most jaded fall in love with this tiny (when compared to its neighbors) but beautiful country. They capture he splendor of Uruguay, inside and out.
@reflectedcity: Mostly artistic shots, and almost all are black and white. At over 800 pictures and counting, “reflected city” does a beautiful job showcasing Montevideo’s arctitecture.
@mattforestblend: If you want to hang out with a Montevideo resident, Mattityahu Correa would be that candidate. He captures the beauty of this city, but also a side hardly whitewashed. I love his pics.
@norcarbus: Following Nora and Carlos offers a wonderful tour of the colors and architecture that define Uruguay. Their dramatic capture of color is sublime.
@misscasiopea: I love her capture of colors and textures. She’s about day to day life in Uruguay, through the life of objects.
@redhotjimmypepper: If you want to see the unfiltered, “bad ass” side of Montevideo, follow Jimmy. His pics are as cool as him. And yes, he features some token cute kitties.
@lacarome: I don’t know why Laura Romero does not have more followers. Then again, the passion for her country shows in her profile, and perhaps that is enough for her. She brilliantly captures Uruguay pride.
@alvaroslik: Montevideo and Uruguay unfiltered. Following him is like a taking a virtual tour of this nation.
@ceocomunicacion, @albertosleon, @alejandrosleon: All right, so I lied, this makes 12 top Instagrammers to follow in Uruguay, not 10. But these three guys, who recently relocated here from their native Venezuela, post pictures that reflect the joy and opportunities one can find by living here.
